Please give the Surgery at least 24 hours notice when requesting repeat prescriptions.
Many medicines are designated POMV (Prescription Only Medicines) and are strictly controlled by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons regulations, which means that repeat prescriptions cannot always automatically dispensed, unless your pet has been evaluated by a Veterinary Surgeon in the last 3 - 6 months (routine flea and worm preparations are exceptions).
This is designed to check for adverse reactions and ensure that medicines are still appropriate or the most up to date and are producing the best benefit we can achieve for your pet's particular condition. Repeat prescription requests also have to be authorised by a Veterinary Surgeon prior to dispensing.
Telephoning in advance avoids calling in on spec and finding that the Veterinary Surgeon is off the premises or the Pharmacy Nurse is very busy or even the drugs that you have requested are out of stock. We stock over 1,000 items in our Pharmacy and have over 17,000 registered patients and so occasionally the same product can be requested many times on the same day, leading to it being temporarily unavailable.
Our pharmacy has an electronic ordering system linked to the wholesaler and most products can be obtained within 24 hours of request.
