There has been an enormous advance in specialist diets over the last few years with many prescription diets available tailored specifically to help many medical conditions eg kidney or urinary problems. Some conditions can be treated by the use of prescription diet alone, eventually without the need for drugs. In addition, diets are also available designed for certain sizes and ages and life style of pets. Large breeds of dogs, especially during growth, can benefit from a specialist diet, reducing the risk of developmental arthritis.
