Nurses Clinics

Ashwood has a dedicated Nurses Consulting Room with computer link to all patient records and Practice information. Ann Wood (VN) is Ashwood's Senior Practice Nurse and with Rachael O'Dwyer (VN) and Practice Administrator Stephanie Mucklow co-ordinate the services the Practice can offer via Nurse Clinics. Nurse consultations are complimentary and are aimed to provide an opportunity for owners to discuss their pet's problems at leisure in a relaxed and informed environment. Current services on offer include:

Weight Watchers Club

Many clinical conditions can be improved by weight correction and full measurements, diet programmes with professional encouragement and monitoring are vital for success. At your first appointment your nurse will weigh your pet and take his or her measurements so there is a comparison to measure against. She will discuss with you the target weight for your pet and work out with you how to reach that target, be that just by diet or together with a exercise regieme. There are diets both wet and dry available to help with weight loss and it is at this appointment you will be given the smallest bag to try or just a few cans to take home then, if you are happy with your pets new diet we can, on your instructions, order a larger supply for you to collect. We keep on record the measured weight and you can always have a weight chart from our computer to take away with you so you can see for yourself how svelte your pet is becoming ! These appointments are FREE of charge and follow-ups are booked at regular intervals. So if you have any worries about how portly your pet is becoming - get in touch we're looking forward to seeing you.

Golden Years Club

Designed for our older faithful friends as an informed review of health with a lifestyle check and advice about support services available from the Practice to detect hidden problems earlier. Senior Pet Health Screens can also be discussed.

Dental Hygiene Club

Full dental checks are carried out at a free appointment by our experienced nurses within a few days following inhouse dental treatment. At this appointment your pets' mouth will be checked to make sure there is nothing to be concerned about and your nurse will be available to answer any queries you may have about your pets dental treatment. She will offer advice on oral hygiene, how to brush your pets teeth, which toothbrushes and toothpastes are available and information about dental diets. You can have complimentary dental paste and diet samples to take away, they will be available in the waiting room for you to buy at a later date should you wish to. You will also be offered a FREE follow up appointment for 6 months later. As we are sure you are aware Dental Disease can be a cause of heart and organ disease later in life so regular checks are important for your pets health and your own peace of mind.

Pre Operative Information

This is a service designed for owners to discuss at leisure proposed operations and investigations for their pets and to clarify admittance and discharge arrangements and costs involved. There may be a choice of options to deal with a pet's problem and a chat informally with a senior nurse can often be helpful in decision making.

Post Operative Checks

Post operative checks are available and follow up advice can be given about operations, wounds, stitches, medication etc. These Clinics are available in addition to visits to see the Vet and are designed to help reassure any worries or concerns owners may have about their pet.
