Emergencies

Working time directives have made the provision of emergency services much more difficult and expensive. Ashwood has joined with the other Sutton Practices and several other local Practices to provide and finance a dedicated emergency clinic.

Historically, emergency night cover has been provided by Ashwood's own vets, who have often already worked an 11 hour day and were often rather tired and perhaps not able to give their best service when called out in the middle of the night. To get around this problem, our emergency clinic - Northside Emergency Clinic - opens at 7.00 pm to 8.00 am weekdays and 12 noon Saturday to 8.00 am Monday. The Clinic is fully equipped with the capability to offer consultations, operations, xrays, lab tests and temporary hospitalisation during the time that Ashwood is closed. The Clinic is also staffed by vets and nurses, who only work in the emergency clinic and do not have the task of performing a full day's duty as well. This means that there is always 24 hours per day, 365 days per year, treatment available for your pet.

Cases are always seen in order of priority.

Patients seen at Northside are transferred by pet taxi back to Ashwood for the start of normal hours. Those cases that do not stay in at Northside but need a follow up at Ashwood have full medical notes and clinical information faxed through to us, so that we can carry on where Northside left off.
